Mrs. Hepworth from Lake Worth FL is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Brain And Body Balance!

My students need high interest books and flexible seating options. Geronimo Stilton, Bad Kitty, and Judy Moody are some of their favorite characters! We need 5 wobble cushions to supplement our flexible seating classroom.

My Students

99% of students at my school receive free or reduced lunch. 68% of students are English Language Learners. 100 students are classified as "homeless" due to their families' struggle to provide adequate shelter. Hundreds of students receive food assistance via local food banks that support families through the school. Hundreds of students face catastrophic problems outside of school including (but not limited to) the full effects of poverty, absent parents, familial substance abuse, familial illiteracy, domestic abuse, mental health issues, foster care, familial health problems, and immigration and ICE issues.

While the obstacles faced by students at my school are daunting, there is still reason to hope and to take action because 100% of students at my school want to learn so they can have more in the future.

100% of students at my school can learn.

The growth within students is inspirational! Students are growing academically and they are maturing into more responsible citizens. Students and families are recognizing the power of literacy and education to change lives. Visitors to school are even commenting on the changes in student behavior and overall school climate. With continued support from the community, students at my school will continue to shine!

My Project

Students exercise their brains (aka read!) more when they have access to high interest books. Flexible seating allows students to get their energy out while enhancing student focus. Some students find it difficult to develop an interest in reading, but become avid readers when they find that one special character to help them get started on their reading adventure. Not only does my classroom library serve my current students, it also supports my former students and others at school. Dozens of students come to my room to borrow books so I need more high-interest titles available at all times!

If my students have more high interest books and flexible seating options, they will focus more on their reading and will achieve better brain and body balance!

My students know that more reading leads to more learning and more learning leads to more opportunities in the future.
