My second graders are a fun-loving group of seven year olds! Majority of my students come from different economical backgrounds and have a variety of learning styles that they bring to my room. My students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many hardships they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with imaginative and meaningful learning experiences. They want to be in school because they want to learn and become successful.
My students are full of life, enjoy hands-on activities, and are always eager to learn.
Every day my students come into my room full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what they will be learning. From the moment they enter my room, I focus on the potential growth in my students. I want to make the learning in my classroom very hands-on and interactive for all of my students. I feel that they are at their best when learning is hands-on and the information will stick with them. My goal for all of my students is to inspire them to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
Over the past couple of years, I have been trying to build up my classroom library in order to provide my students with a variety of books. It is usually easier to find books for girls but finding ones to interest the boys is a little more challenging. My group of boys this year love to read but the books I have do not interest them and they don't want to read.
This project will help get more books for the boys in my current classroom and for my future classes.
When my class go to the library, I have noticed that the boys ALWAYS get a "Who Would Win?" or a "Jake Maddox" book. I have a hard time getting them to put those books away because they are truly engaged in their reading. I love it when they bring the book and show my all the cool and interesting things that they found in the books. I want all of my students, especially the boys, to be able to find a book that interests them. My goal is to instill a love of reading at a young age, so that my students continue on to be life-long learners.
