Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school each day ready to learn. They come from various backgrounds. One hundred percent of the students eat free breakfast and lunch each day. The economic status of the area would qualify it for the highest poverty area. More than 60% of my students are immigrants from Central America and Africa.
Each student believes they can achieve and works hard toward their own success.
This attitude makes it possible to meet our goals. While most students are below grade level, they work hard to master challenges. This project will help us meet our goals.
My Project
The boys in my class love to read, but they struggle finding a good book that represents them as boys. I want to give them more books that represent them as individuals, books that they would love! The books I have chosen are right up their alley.
Boys in my class want to see themselves represented in the books they read.
They want to read about sports, mysteries, and history. They want books where they can see themselves as main characters. This is important to help develop the love of reading in their young lives. I have some books that the boys like, but they are read so often that they are beginning to tatter. With your help I can give more choices to my class. I look forward to their smiling faces as these books are purchased and read.
