Help me give my students muslin, thread, needles and other supplies we need to make personalized pillows to gain simple sewing skills that will benefit them for a lifetime!

My students need assorted supplies to create personalized Some are scared and hopeless, and this shows. I try to make my classroom a safe, loving place. Many come from broken homes, and school is what is stable for them.
We know students who have art have better attendance, tend to graduate, and even score higher on standardized tests.
My students come from an impoverished community in an inner city urban high school.
Our students don't understand why we can't have the things other schools have. With the budget cuts in our schools, our students have suffered. I am determined to give my students the same opportunities they currently are not afforded! Art prepares students for the 21st Century by teaching important skills in creativity and innovation!
I have found that many of my students who struggle the most in academics are great artists! They all have so much to offer. I want them to know their self-worth! Art is an amazing vehicle to do this!
If you ask a student what they remember the most about high school, it is unlikely they will tell you it was a math test or English paper. We will create personalized pillows to teach students many skills they can use throughout their lives.
When I ask students to tell me about things they enjoy most about school, it all revolves around experiences and relationships.
Students who graduated years ago tell me all the time they have kept the pillow they made in art! They have told me how much they enjoyed this project and how much it means to them.
We will use the batik process using wax and dye. Students will sew their pillow on a sewing machine which most have never used before. We will use needles and thread to hand stitch it closed, teaching students a skill they can use for a lifetime to make simple repairs on clothing.
