My Students

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go." — Dr. Seuss This quote encompasses what truly happens when a child reads. Reading opens doors for anyone by simply picking up a book and turning the pages.

Twenty first grade students walk through my door each day with smiling faces that are eager to learn.

These inquisitive 6 and 7 year olds are full of energy and yearn for many opportunities of hands on learning that challenge and stimulate their active minds. Richland Elementary is a kindergarten through second grade school that creates learning environments to empower, encourage, and inspire life-long learners.

My Project

Through the purchase of these boxes, I will provide each student a permanent space to store their self-selected books. These book boxes will be used daily during our Drop Everything And Read time (DEAR). The use of DEAR promotes daily reading, not a guided reading time with teacher led activities, but true hands on reading. Much research supports the classroom need to create opportunities for students to read a wide assortment of books and other texts to develop them into enthusiastic readers and learners for their lifetime.

These boxes will improve our classroom by providing a portable collection system of books for each student that will foster their love of reading.

My students' lives will be better because they are practicing and improving their reading skills.
