This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title I school with different backgrounds. We have 23 languages represented on our campus and some of our students are refugees. Even with all our difference, health and fitness is a universal need.
Due to our population, many kids do not have an opportunity to take advantage of extracurricular activities.
Many of our students do not get the required amount of exercise a day. They live sedentary lifestyles. They lack the motivation and knowledge on the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Our students are eager to learn and achieve but are not sure how to implement fitness into their lifestyle. Many of them live off of fast food, heat and serve meals, and video games/TV.
My Project
I already have ideas for the supplies that I am requesting for my students. There are many skills that can be taught using the Champion Bowling pin set. Hand/eye coordination is very difficult skill for beginning athletes. It requires mental focus and concentration as well as using tactical strategies. Bowling is the perfect game for young kids to play to help sharpen those skills.
It is a simple game that improves muscle tone and strength.
Bowling allows kids to be social, provides stress release, and easy to learn. Many of my students have not had an opportunity to experience all that be benefited from the sport of bowling.
