I am a third-grade bilingual, special-education teacher of students ages nine to thirteen who are classified as mentally retarded and autistic. My students are learning to bowl in gym. This is a big thing for them because they are learning to better control their large motor skills and their hand-eye coordination. The gym teacher tells me that my students are so proud of themselves when they actually make contact with one of the pins. I would like to take the students in June to a real bowling alley, Gun Post Lanes, that is close to our school to let them bowl (with the bumpers) and enjoy themselves and their accomplishments. It would be a celebration not only of their growth in physical education, but also of their growth as students throughout the year. This would be an end-of-the-year celebration. We would also use this time to celebrate the birthdays of the students who have summer birthdays. I would like to book the one-hour bowling time that includes a slice of pizza and a fruit punch. I will bring a cake for those celebrating summer birthdays. I really think this would be a great way to end the year. Thanks for considering this proposal! The cost is a bit high, but I know that it will be worth every cent.
