Bouncy Bands, Working Students

My Students

I teach STEM to students in Kindergarten through 6th grade at an elementary school in the North Phoenix suburbs. Parents at my school are supportive and eager to help. While my students have many skills, learning to take risks, fail, and try again is a challenge, especially the younger ones.

My students need to feel as though the room were designed for them.

My younger students feet do not touch the ground, leaving them to feel ungrounded and kicking their feet without thinking. Many of my older students need a way to fidget without interfering with the learning of people around them.

My Project

I chose Bouncy Bands over other, similar bands because they have cylinders that hold them in place on chairs, unlike similar bands that rely on friction to stay in place, and will need to be frequently adjusted.

Having Bouncy Bands on chairs will benefit all students.

First, it will allow for accommodations for students with 504's and IEP's without making them feel singled out. Second, it helps younger students feel grounded as they are working since their feet don't touch the floor. Finally, it allows all students a way to fidget or release energy without interfering with the learning of people around them.
