Bouncy Bands are for Ants in their Pants 6th Graders
Help me give my students Bouncy bands to wiggle their feet on in order for them to stay seated, focus on the instruction, stay on task for longer periods of time.
I am a special ed. teacher who is co-teaching in a 6th grade English class with 25 students in each of 3 block classes. Block classes are 90 minutes long, a long time for 6th graders to sit still with a lot of energy. The class consists of 1/3 to 1/2 special education students with various disabilities, emotional, physical, ADHD, ADD, learning disabilities, etc.
High energy 6th graders having to sit still for 90 minutes is crazy.
We have introduced different chairs, tables, and seats which the students love but still can't sit still in for very long. We have given them fidgets which become noisy, flying across the room, etc. These kids are creative, energetic, and have a desire to learn.
My Project
Bouncy Bands are made from 100% heavy-duty rubber and have molded loops on both ends. The band is latex-free and they install to the desk or chair in seconds. Bouncy Bands are quiet and they don't distract others. Active students are more productive and spend more time on task when they can move. Students with short legs enjoy being able to rest their feet on the Bouncy Band instead of having them dangle all day. In addition, students who feel anxious when working enjoy being able to stretch their legs to release their anxiety while they work.
Bouncy Bands research from the developer, 686 Students surveyed said, Bouncy Bands are fun, Bouncy Bands help me focus in class, Bouncy Bands help me move so I can relax better, Bouncy Bands help me do my work better, Bouncy Bands help me take tests better.
Pre and Post intervention using 10 students. The average number of times off task went from 15.7 to 9.1 times off task in a block classroom.
144 Teachers surveyed said,
The bands help students release energy, students stay on task better.
The bands are quiet, the students are calmer during test taking, movement helps students focus more.
