This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Here at our school, we have over 500 students. We are a Title I school, which means that our students come from lower income households. Our school is a brand new school, and we are very excited to be in the brand new building and to start our own legacy.

I am the music teacher, which means that I get to teach every student in the building.

My students love to come to music to sing, dance, play instruments, and most importantly to learn!

My Project

Playground balls in music? Has this music teacher gone mad? Well, perhaps. These playground balls would be used to help my students to understand the basics of steady beat and strong and weak beats here in music class. Rather than just discussing beats, these items would give my students a chance to physically feel the beat.

My students would use the playground balls as a learning tool here in music class.

My students could start to get a clearer view of steady beat while bouncing the ball to the beat. When we start to work on more complicated topics like strong and weak beats, we can again use these learning tools; the playground balls can be used to demonstrate the difference between the two by bouncing the playground balls in on the floor for the strong beats and bouncing in our hands for the weak beats.

These playground balls would be a great way to add a fun, new twist on a normal, everyday music class topic.
