This upcoming school year I will be teaching 6th grade! I am so excited to be teaching upper elementary and diving into the 6th grade curriculum. It will be a major change from 3rd, but a journey I am eager to begin and am ready for.
I know how tough 6th grade can be for some of the students at my school, and I want to create a safe space that they will enjoy learning in and feel comfortable being in every day.
Students from our school come from a tough neighborhood and our school is a Title I school with over 90% of our students who are SES. When they leave school, more often than not they have no control over what their home life brings. That is why I feel it is important to make them feel as loved, appreciated, and comfortable as possible when they step their feet into our classroom each and every day.
My Project
I am so excited to be starting off the school year in person with my students! Last year so was tough, but yet my students have risen to the occasion and worked so hard working distantly from home and when they came back to the classroom for fourth quarter. I know the same can be said for the new students I have coming into my classroom this year.
Students need a place they can call home away from home, especially a place they are at for six hours a day.
I want our classroom to be a safe place and one they feel comfortable learning in. I do have flexible seating options in my room thanks to past DonorsChoose projects, but I do not have enough for all my students. It would be a dream for all my students to have the option of having a flexible seat in our classroom.
