I teach Physical Education at a Title I school located in Central Florida, and my school has many unique challenges. The student’s that I teach have backgrounds that prevent them from getting ahead early in life. They are neglected from having many of the life experiences most Americans see as "typical." For example, we are a Title I school with a high poverty rate. In addition, the student population at my school is made up of many single-parent households, as well as non-English speaking families.
Recently, many of our students lost everything and were displaced due to the devastation of Hurricane Irma.
My entire community was affected by hurricane Irma. Additionally, our school has had many students enroll that are hurricane refugees from Puerto Rico. This is especially challenging because our community is struggling to rebuild and get back on its feet because we were hit by hurricane Irma as well. We are getting back to normal one day at a time, but we will get there!
My Project
Our students are in dire need of physical education uniforms or pinnies. In addition, our school enrollment numbers climb every day. Due to the recent hurricanes that have hit Florida and Puerto Rico, our school is getting an influx of refugees. In order to keep up with the demands of our school curriculum, as well as, the unique needs of our school community, we are in need of help.
My students need agility balls to be able to participate in team building activities and games.
We envision a P.E. environment where students can enjoy physical education in an environment where they are learning and growing with their peers. By achieving this objective, students will be able to become kinesthetic learners. In addition, our P.E. budget doesn't cover all of the growing needs and demands of our curriculum. Without the help of generous donors, we cannot afford even the most basic supplies. Please help us to get our students the scrimmage vests we need for a successful P.E. program.
