My students are loving, intelligent, caring, compassionate students who love to learn and are very curious. They always strive to do their best, especially when taking on new challenges with an open mind. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, outside our classroom walls, I strive to make our classroom feel like a safe home for them.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me.
I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
My amazing 2nd graders are very active and love to move around all day long. We expect a lot from our kiddos but sitting in a hard chair at a desk for several hours a day isn't always reasonable. Kids need to move! From day 1 in our classroom I have instilled the value of making smart choices that help facilitate learning in our classroom.
By allowing my students to choose their own seating choices I have seen such an increase in engagement and focus, but we don’t have enough resources in our classroom to allow them to do so.

The bouncy balls and wobble stool will help to create additional seating at various tables when students are completing independent work.
Adding the cushion chairs to our reading center, and the floor cushions to our writing table will allow students the ability to wobble, and rock back-and-forth without being a distraction to others while working and moving.
