My students are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful every year for my room full of scholars! Their learning is my top priority and when they are given the option to sit in the most effective seat for them it changes their entire outlook on the day, and their academic success throughout the year.
My classroom is centered around my students and their individual learning needs.
I believe that classrooms that are student centered are the most successful. Every child walks into class to begin their journey to learn, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. Some students prefer the traditional desk and chair, but unfortunately many prefer a more flexible seating option. I incorporate a variety of learning strategies, collaborative work, and alternative seating to ensure that each student's needs are met. Students are allowed to move freely around the class to make their learning most comfortable for them. Some students need the option to get their wiggles out throughout the day to be a more productive scholar. These flexible seating options will allow my students to succeed and thrive in my classroom this year, and years to come!
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning experience and gives them the power to chose what works best for them. Currently in my class students are given the option to work freely around the room in a variety of locations that makes learning comfortable for them, while helping them achieve academic success.
Students are noticeably more focused on the task at hand and less disruptive during class in a flexible seating environment.
The materials that I have picked will benefit my students by allowing them more choices when selecting the most effective seating option. The yoga balls are a great options for those students who like to wiggle and move! They allow the student to quietly release their energy without disruptive their own learning and the learning of their peers around them. The wobble discs are great for those who need extra movement, while still sitting in their desk. They can also utilize these discs on the floor for movement purposes while doing academic work!
I know how choice can positively affect my students work and learning outcomes, and hope that these additional choices will help us achieve even more success!
