Our school truly represents what a "melting pot" our country is. We have students with various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. My students are also on a variety of levels academically. Some students are English language learners while others have individualized education plans in order to ensure that their needs are met. Regardless of their circumstances, they must be challenged daily in order to meet their intellectual needs.
I teach multiple math blocks with 25-30 sixth graders in each block.
These students are transitioning from an elementary school setting to a middle school world. It is part of my job to help make this a natural and easier transition for each child.
My Project
Bouncy Bands enable fidgety students to sit at a desk and move the band, relieving anxiety, hyperactivity and boredom. Bouncy Bands "stimulate the whole brain to enable what is known as “active learning”, improve focus, enhance creativity, and improve memory by engaging more senses in experiences."
Students love being able to move and the feeling of not being trapped at their desks.
Bouncy Bands are a great addition for all students, especially those with ADD, ADHD, autism, sensory needs and students who just love to move and can’t sit still. In addition, studies have shown that, "when people engage more of their senses in experience, they remember it better."
