Most of my students receive free/reduced-price lunch which means that most of my students come from low income families. Because of this, most of my students are faced with challenged inside the classroom, as well as outside of it. This does not stop them though from working hard and trying their absolute best every single day that they enter my classroom.
While my school does not have much technology, materials, or funding that most schools have in order to give their students the most exemplary learning experience possible - my students make up for it and we somehow make it work with their passion for learning.
My students are very curious, hard workers, creative, and excitable learners. I find myself more amazed and proud of them every single day for what they accomplish for themselves.
My students are the leaders of the future. They are your next politicians, doctors, teachers, lawyers, policemen, vets, and CEOS. It all starts with them developing confidence in themselves at an early age, setting goals for themselves, and making the most out of the education that they can get. Though they don't know it yet, these students will be doing great things in the future.
My Project
My project focuses on obtaining alternate seating - balance balls, for each student in my classroom.
My classroom is made up of many students who are so hyper that they cannot concentrate on their work; making it near impossible for them to get a full educational experience that they deserve, and COULD get within the hour that I have them.
Many are diagnosed with ADHD and are not able to be medicated for it. Having the balance balls in my classroom would allow the students to focus their energy on one task (bouncing and balancing) which would in turn, allow them to focus their brains on learning. This is the equivalent of a child having a fidget spinner, but in a less distracting way. Where you have to actually concentrate with a fidget spinner, bouncing comes naturally and it keeps your body occupied.
Being able to grab the attention of my students with this disability would work wonders in my classroom. Most of them have so much potential to really shine and be brilliant in the classroom setting. It is true, this disability puts limits on so much potential just waiting to burst through.
Having balancing balls could be exactly what these kids need in order to be able to do just that. This in turn could lead to students going from a low confidence level in school, to a very high one.
Balance balls would also help kids with their health - having to balance on the balls all day. It would also be safer, more efficient, and would help strengthen my accelerated group. All in all, these balance balls would benefit my students and their education in more ways than one.
