My students are very excited and eager to learn each year. They are very helpful and curious about everything! The town we live in has a large Air Force base and a large portion of my students have at least one parent in the military. Living a military lifestyle has both positive and negative affects on my students. There are great opportunities to travel and learn about different places but it is not uncommon for students to have a parent deployed during the school year...or even have a parent injured. Lots of my students have to deal with things in their lives that can cause them to be distracted during school.
My Project
As most 8-9 year olds are, my students are super fidigity at times and need a place where they can move and get their energy out. If I am funded for this grant I plan to put the stability balls in my small group center and also use the hot dots to help the students practice their math/reading skills. Hot Dots are pens that give the students immediate feedback on a question they answer. When they click on an answer from the card the pen will say things like, good job, way to go, try again, etc so my students will know whether they are completing the work correctly or need to look at it again. I am looking to use these stability balls in my classroom during centers and small group time to help my students focus on the topic being taught while still being able to get some energy out. It has been shown that students who are able to move a little while learning can focus more on what is being taught! With movement and engagement it's a win-win situation!
