My school is a public charter school. I have a bright and eager to learn a group of 1st graders.
My school has a diverse population of students, many of whom receive free or reduced lunch.
A large proportion of students speak English as a Second Language. Many of my students have ADD and ADHD and would benefit from having these items in our classroom. Many of my students are still recovering from hurricane Irma and don’t have much in their own homes. They are so excited to come to school each and every day.
My Project
My students come to school full of life and ready to learn! Just like adults get tired of sitting in hard chairs all day, students do too! They need more flexible/comfortable seating options to enhance student engagement and learning. Studies show that students learn better when they are physically active and comfortable. Students are able to bounce on an exercise ball, sit, stand, kneel, etc. This project will be increasing the flexible seating already offered in our classroom.
Some of the seating options that will be provided with this project are exercise balls.
All of these options will give my students the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while they are learning.
This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable and at home in our classroom. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating!
