This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a large urban district in Wisconsin. All of the students in my school receive free breakfast and lunch. My three year old students attend a full day Head Start program. Although I teach regular education, I usually have three to four special ed students each year.
My students come to school eager and ready to learn.
They also have very short attention spans and need a variety of different activities throughout the day. Children learn best when they are actively engaged with age appropriate materials.
My Project
My students need some flexible seating options to maximize their learning as well as have options for movement. At only three years of age, having choices is critical for them. So often young learners are denied this important opportunity. Balance balls would allow my students a safe, comfortable seating choice to complete tasks as well as help them maintain focus on their learning.
Research has shown that flexible seating options in the classroom help to enhance concentration and motivation for learners.
I would like to add balance balls to our classroom to allow some fun and bouncy movement while learning and a pump to keep the balls properly inflated. My students would truly benefit with these additions to our classroom!
