My students need 12 flexible and active seating options in my classroom to help release excess energy and stimulation while engaging in rigorous assignments.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Throughout the day I am fortunate enough to support over 30 students who have special learning needs at my school. My classroom is filled with fourth, fifth, and sixth graders who need extra support in reading and math. Our school receives Title 1 funding and 100% of my students receive free and reduced lunch. The community we reside in is under-served area of Tulsa, Oklahoma and the challenges within the community run parallel with our school. Despite these challenges my students, families, and school community show resilience and grit everyday.
My students are full of joy and have a strong desire to learn new things!
Everyday I learn something new from my students as they bring laughter and life into my classroom. Many of my students are working multiple grade levels behind and the time they spend in my classroom is vital to their growth. My students know that it takes hard work to succeed and they are willing to put in that work everyday!
My Project
All of my students come to class everyday with loads of energy and excitement! This energy helps propel them into their learning and stay awake throughout the day. As a special education teacher, all of my students have unique learning needs and some do not have the skills to focus on their work when they have this excess energy. I am requesting 12 stability balls to help my students focus while they complete their work.
Although student energy is a huge asset to my classroom environment, my students need a way to productively and frequently release their energy while they work.
These flexible seating arrangements will enhance my student's learning time and help them stay focused. Incorporating movement is vital to my students classroom success and these seats will allow movement throughout their time in my class. My student's have a strong desire to learn and complete their assignments, and these seats will support them as they continue toward their future goals. My students and I greatly appreciate your support!
