My school is located in Cadott, Wisconsin. Cadott is located exactly half-way between the equator in the North Pole and has a population of 1,500 people. We live in a farming community filled with open spaces, wooded areas, and lots of friendly people. Our elementary school is a 3K-6th grade building. We are a Title I school with over 50% free and reduced-price lunch.
I have 20 boys and girls in my 2nd-grade classroom.
The students come from diverse backgrounds, home experiences, and environments. There are varying levels of academic development and varying levels of social & emotional development. However, they all share the same drive to learn new things and be good people.
It is my mission to meet the physical, academic, and emotional needs of each of my students. I strive to help my students become kind and caring adults, who accept others and show empathy for those around them.
My Project
Research shows that giving students the freedom to move increases student learning success. Therefore, as a teacher, I do everything I can to make the physical environment of my classroom as comfortable and flexible as possible. These balance balls, wobble stools, wobble seats, and seat bands will help me to accomplish this goal!
When my students are given the ability to fidget appropriately, it enhances their productivity and concentration giving them freedom and ownership of their choices.
Often times students move around in their chairs and these balance ball chairs, wobble stools, wobble seats, and seat bands will give them the ability to do so without disturbing other students. I plan to use the ten balance balls at individual student desks. The wobble stools will be at our small group guided reading table. The wobble seats and seat bands will be available for students that need them.
