My fifth graders are very fidgety. I notice it is very difficult for them to sit still. They are constantly leaning in chairs or standing because they cannot sit still. This makes it very difficult for them to focus. These stability balls will help students with their wiggles and increase focus.
I have 24 fifth graders.
I work in a high poverty school where 95% receive free and reduced lunch. The students are always excited to learn new content and work very hard to be leaders. These students struggle to sit still for long periods and it is difficult to find times for brain breaks. I let students stand but it becomes a distraction for others. The stability balls will help because students will be able to constantly move without being a distraction to others. My students have a hunger for learning but need support.
My Project
Students will use the stability balls to replace the typical chairs. Students will be able to constantly bounce as they work. This will increase focus because they won't be fidgeting in their seats. When I say students will be able to bounce, I do not mean big bounces. The ball will not be allowed to come off the floor. The rings will help as a stand for when the balls are not in use.
