Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a wonderful Title I elementary school in Northern California. My students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds and most receive free or reduced-price lunch. More than 50% of our students are English Language Learners.
These students are hardworking children who come to school excited about the daily lessons.
I would like these children to have every opportunity available that will improve their chances to succeed while understanding our daily lessons. Having all the supplies available to help the children learn their daily lessons is very important.
My Project
Teachers spend much of their time focused on engaging students in lessons, and through flexible seating successfully make students more comfortable in the classroom. There is new information to support children’s physical movement around the classroom, as this encourages blood flow and in turn, keeps them focused and motivated.
Long gone are the days when students are required to sit in assigned seating because it has been found that safe space seating is just as effective.
Many educators support flexible seating for classrooms as long as students are sitting in an environment where they can feel comfortable and are not causing issues with students surrounding them.
My students will use their new materials during our reading time. We are using the Daily 5 reading program which suggests we use flexible seating for the students. Help me give my student different seating options. In addition, while the students are busy reading I will be able to take a reading group and utilize the desktop whiteboard.
