Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach in a small town at an intermediate school with students ranging from 3rd to 5th grade. I am a resource teacher for student with varying learning abilities. At my school we strive to make sure all students have everything they need to be successful! I work with not only my assigned students, but all students to increase overall student achievement. Providing students with extra support in a nurturing, and stimulating environment is my school’s mission so that we see each student meet their full potential.

My Project

Just like adults, all children are different and learn in different ways. When students are uncomfortable, they are distracted and unproductive. Providing students with seating options allow students to have a choice in where they want to sit. Traditionally, students are assigned a desk and must stay in that location until the teacher changes the students’ seating. Allowing students to have a choice helps make them feel like a valued member of the learning environment in a location and/or group they are comfortable working with. These bouncy ball seats also make choosing their seat a fun way for learners to wiggle, as needed, while staying focused on their work. Comfortable students are calm, focused, and productive.
