My students need 30 Bouncy Bands for Chairs so they can move while sitting at their desks without disturbing others and stay on task without feeling anxious or hyperactive.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students are expected to know and learn more today than ever before. This means more time spent doing rigorous work across the content areas, with little down time or time to move around to "get the wiggles out." Kids need to move, and when they can move without disturbing others...even better!
I teach a class of highly diverse, and active, third graders.
Many of my students struggle academically, socially, and socio-economically. They, like all others students, are expected to perform at higher levels and standards than ever before. They spend their morning working on writing and math, and their afternoon block of three and a half hours working on reading. The afternoon is spent moving between whole group instruction, skill groups, small group reading, and other interventions, with no recess breaks. While they are working, they are working at a higher level of rigor than ever before, with little time or room for movement or "brain breaks."
My Project
Bouncy Bands for Chairs are the perfect solution to a child's need for movement and tactile stimulation, in a time-crunched day that allows for very few or no breaks. Bouncy Bands for Chairs attach to the front legs of the students' chairs so they can bounce their feet on the band, releasing energy while they work, and gaining the movement they need in order to stay focused in their work.
Students are better able to stay on task since they are able to move without disturbing others, and they do not feel as anxious or hyperactive. Students are better able to work because they are able to move while at their seat, without feeling like they are trapped at their table the entire work time.
Students with ADHD, various learning disabilities, and anxiety disorders are able to release their extra energy and anxiety while they work in an acceptable way, without distracting other students from their work.
My students are an active bunch.
They need to move. Because they need to move, but are expected to stay seated while the teacher is teaching, many of them tip or lean back in their chairs, which is unsafe. Bouncy Bands will give them the physical outlet they need to stay better focused while staying safe, which will ultimately improve their learning so they can perform at the level they are expected to perform.
