My Students
My students are four years old with many turning five soon. They are learning to be part of a classroom community. They have made many new friends and are learning a variety of things through play and instruction. For many of my students, this is their first school experience. My students are eager to learn and are very inquisitive.
I have 22 boys and girls in my class, that come from various backgrounds.
We are located in rural south Georgia in an area of high poverty.
My Project
Outside play is a vital part of child development. In addition to sparking an interest in sports and extracurricular activities, playing with equipment such as playground balls helps improve a child's hand eye coordination and gross and fine motor skills. Timing is one lesson that children learn fast as a ball is thrown to them. Also, it helps with prediction because they begin to anticipate the ball's movements based on factors of direction and speed. Children also learn the importance of force by realizing how much strength is needed to kick or throw a ball. Providing playground balls for my students has many physical benefits with the added bonus of teaching good sportsmanship when playing with others.
