Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from varied socioeconomic backgrounds. We live in a rural dairy farm area of Idaho. It's small town living, where most families have lived here all their lives and know each other.
One thing that makes our students special is their strong character and emphasis of family values.
This could be due to the fact that we live in a small town, or it could be because many of our students don't have many material possessions, so they spend their time becoming a close family and a close community.
My Project
Gone are the days when student desks were lined up in rows and each desk faced the front of the classroom. We group students together now so they can learn collaboratively. This prepares them for working in teams in the workplace later in life. Students need to learn how to communicate with each other - how to listen, and how to respond to each other.
Just like adults, every student works and learns differently, so if they are able to choose how and where they learn best they will be more successful.
I want to create an environment that is flexible so that every type of learner is able to be successful. One student might work better if they are able to move a bit, so a rocking chair or exercise ball might be the best option for them. Another student might do best sitting or laying on a pillow on the floor. Still another might prefer standing at a tall desk in the back of the room. I want to be able to give students the freedom to choose where they will learn best with floor cushions and yoga balls!
