Help me give my students these awesome ball chairs. These chairs calm down the nervous tendencies that many of my students have so that they are able to concentrate on their math while writing with dry erase markers.
I teach in an inner city Columbus middle school with 125 excitable, lovable, and eager for life students. Many of them have a story and responsibilities that far exceed their 12-13 years of life. Many of these students have no idea what lies outside of their few mile radius. They know me as a teacher who gives it her all while expecting them to do the same with high expectations in spite of their life situations. 100% of our students receive free lunch. Everyday in my classroom, I get the best students that their families have!
I have to use a variety of ways to keep my students motivated and engaged in learning.
I have seen flexible seating work with my own children. I tried to bring that to my classroom in a small way by adding a couple web chairs and all the sudden I have kids running to math class to be first in the chairs! The few seats that I have are definitely a motivator!
All students need to be able to work in an area that best suits their needs.
My goal is to create a classroom that motivates students to enter and actually do math!
So often students dread math class while they love gym class.
Why not join the two together? My goal is to get those students who have trouble concentrating bouncing out their anxiety and nervous tendencies. Before long, they will be able to concentrate on their math and not even realize it!
Between bouncing and being able to use markers instead of boring paper and pencil, students will love math as much as they love gym class. As their attitudes towards math improve, so will their math skills and knowledge. Their math possibilities are endless!
