My students come from many different backgrounds and the majority of my students are living at, or just below the poverty line. Their varied personalities and interests bring about an amazing classroom environment that stimulates learning through socialization and personal interaction.
None of my students have been in daycare or a school environment before.
We are a small rural community. It is a 30 minute drive to the nearest towns. Our students have been with grandparents, aunts or a stay-at-home parent until they enter our PreK program.
My Project
I am working to provide the means for hands on learning through hands on exploration in a sensory pleasing classroom environment. The Bots are a fun small motor activity that also facilitates learning letter, sounds, and numbers. These items will be a wonderful addition to our classroom and provide learning through play. The students will learn in an enjoyable self-guided play which enhances their eagerness to learn. Our play in PreK is social and emotional, but also gives our kids the basis for a life long learning experience. Our ultimate goal is for our kids to enjoy school and feel safe and cared for, it is the place they spend most of their waking hours. The light table is a sensory component that allows for a calming sensation. Thank you for any support you can give.
