My Students
My school serves six-hundred 6th-8th grade students from military families. The diverse population is comprised of students from all around the world, speaking many languages, and having a variety of experiences to share. the students come into school every day with smiles on their faces ready to learn despite the struggles that come with frequent moves.
The students are excited about the changes in technology and are eager to learn how to use it!
I have a couple of Ozbot bits in my classroom that students may use when they complete tests or other assignments. I do not have enough for every student or even every pair of students and would love to incorporate the robots into our everyday lessons. Students are so excited and beg me to let them play with the robots. I have students come up for lunch to use them, girls from our "Girls Who Code" class that come borrow them, and older students teaching younger students how to use them.
It is so neat to see their faces light up when they get their robot to do what THEY coded it to do.
My Project
I am requesting a set of Ozobot's to enhance my students' learning in technology. Our students' futures are going to consist of jobs that we can not even imagine and it is my goal to give them experiences in problem-solving, coding and using technology. My hope is to spark passion in some students who do not like school and see no connections to school and their futures.
Also, I want to give my older students the opportunity to show leadership in the school.
My eighth graders are always looking to help out the younger students in the building. By giving them opportunities to teach the younger students how to work with the robots they will have increased motivation to come to school, a feeling of pride, and gain skills in communication.
With the Ozobot's I can help start a Robotics Club open to all students to allow them to explore the technology while pursuing their own passions. This will allow students who may not have opportunities to connect to the school through sports activities to find a different connection to the school.
