My Students
My students are impoverished in every sense of the word.
The vast majority of them live without the simple necessities many in the United States take for granted.
Most live in broken homes and come from broken families. Some have no running water, no heat, and very limited resources. Many have no access to amenities of any kind, and drugs are running rampant in our school neighborhood.
Yet, despite all these setbacks, whether they understand it or not, they still have hope. Many of my students have experienced trauma and tragedy which would bring most grown adults to their knees. However, many of them find ways to persevere through their hardships if given the tiniest of encouragements.
My Project
I will be teaching kindergarten next year. These students have no experience at all with computers, coding, or robotics. By introducing the Botley Robots, my students will be able to begin to gain experience with coding in a fun, easy, and exciting way.
My hope is by using these Botleys, my students' love for technology and robotics will blossom in the world of poverty currently enveloping them.
By experiencing coding in this fun and interesting way, they can begin to see the worlds of possibilities open to them. These robots will give them the basis we can build upon, not only this year but in years to come.
