Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second grade ELL Collaborative in an inner city Title l school. I have 26 students in my classroom. My school services children that live in an area called "the projects." They come from the poorest section of the city. In a school of approximately 650 students, 95% of them receive free breakfast and lunch.
My amazing students are eager to learn and excited to come to school each day.
They have many needs so I try to make our classroom a safe, comfortable environment where they can feel welcome and loved. My students are so grateful for everything that is done for them or given to them. My ELL students are eager to learn while my general education students are eager to assist in their learning. My students need every tool and strategy I can come up with to assist them in learning English. It is very important for all of them to feel successful! Despite the challenges they face, they are always willing to help each other succeed.
I recently attended a blended learning conference where I learned first hand about Botley the Coding Robot. My students would benefit from learning coding skills.
My Project
We need a Botley the Coding Robot because my students are ready for the world of coding. This developmentally appropriate and screen free educational coding robot is the perfect tool. The action challenge activity pack will allow the children to utilize Botley in many different ways. In addition, the Code and Go Robot Mouse activity set will allow the children to extend their knowledge of coding skills further.
Botley the Coding Robot will give my students many options and opportunities to explore the world of coding at their own level.
At a recent Blended Learning conference I had the opportunity to observe, first hand, students using Botley. Not only were the children engaged in the task at hand but also they were using such rich dialog with each other. Botley will foster coding skills, cooperative learning, and engaging dialog among my students.
