Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second grade at a school where 90% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Almost half of my students are second language learners, and a small portion have special needs.
Although they face so many challenges, they always come to school happy and excited to learn.
I want to support them the best I can! They like to move, they love to be part of our community, and they love lots of positive attention. Many of them receive a free breakfast and lunch based on their socioeconomic status.
My Project
As an educator I need to work to give my students the skills of creativity, collaboration and a strong understanding of technology. Botley the coding robot has taught many kids how to code- the fun way! Kids don't know they're learning because they think they are just having fun playing with Botley. Instead, they are learning to think logically in order to get Botley to do what they want him to.
This will be a segue to more advanced coding challenges in the future as well as a generation of adult engineers.
Logical thought processes are something all children need to learn if they are going to make it in this changing world.
