This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I elementary school that is over 80 years old. We lack many of the modern technologies of today's world. Over 95% of my students receive either free or reduced lunch.
My students put in a lot of effort to attend my school.
It is a medical magnet school so they ride a bus for over an hour to get to our school servicing students from all over the community including military families. We only have about 250 students so we are small and don't have the resources that a larger school might have. Most of my students are free or reduced lunch, come from all over the district and include military students.
My Project
Botley, the coding robotic, will enhance my students' thinking skills. They will have to code the robot to follow certain paths while avoiding obstacles.
My students are at a science medical magnet school.
They travel far distances to receive an education. They deserve a better education and more opportunities than they might get at their neighborhood school. These materials will give them an opportunity to think, problem solve, and collaborate with other students to manipulate the robot to perform certain actions. As students work with others they will have to explain their thinking to others increasing their communication skills which is so highly needed in today's global market.
Providing these materials for my students will support them and give them new experiences to grow their brains.
