This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Despite differences in background, education, or economic status, all parents want the same thing for their children. Parents want their children to have a limitless future filled with choices. However, some parents are better resourced than others to assist their children in achieving those goals. For all parents, the goal of school is to learn, but some parents understand the value of play learning in child development.
Children learn best through play.
This may be learning how to count while skipping rope, or how to use a knife through dramatic play. Play not only offers entertainment but real applicable skills. Learning to code can be difficult, but not for young children with already curious minds.
The students at my school are eager to learn and demonstrate what they know in non-traditional ways.
My Project
Students will be using the Botley Coding Pack to see how coding can be applied in real life situations by making Botley move. Students will understand that patterns and sequence matters when attempting to accomplish a goal. In the case of Botley, students will make Botley travel in an increasingly complex manner.
This project would significantly help students at my school have a better grasp of technology and how to apply technology in a useful matter.
They will see that their play has turned into an actual skill. If our goal is to prepare students for the careers of tomorrow, we begin teaching children about career paths at the elementary level and Botley will help them to begin a skill that can transition through middle and high school. As our school prepares for STEM certification, it is increasingly important that we provided students with the chance to utilize all facets of technology and not just tablets or laptops.
