My Kindergartners are creative, energetic, fun kids. They are a diverse group of learners including students from different racial, ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. They also represent a wide spectrum of cognitive abilities and socioeconomic levels.
Kindergartners love books and need many to keep them engaged during independent reading time!
In the classroom, they have book bins full of leveled books to foster their reading development but due to distance learning it has been challenging to get books to my students.
My students are doing a wonderful job with distance learning but what they need are books in their hands at home. Kindergarten books typically take a minute or so to read, so my students need many books (10-15). Kindergartners read and reread books again and again to develop fluency, phrasing and comprehension.
We have monthly distribution days where families pick up materials to use at home.
The materials from Lakeshore will provide books at their reading levels and the bags and back packs to transport and keep them organized for the monthly distributions. Books will be sanitized and redistributed at each distribution.
