My students are a spirited bunch who love to learn in a variety of different ways! As their teacher, I love to create unique learning experiences that they will take with them and apply to become successful citizens in our community. Our learners have a variety of different needs which are accommodated for to the best of the teacher and school's abilities with the resources that are provided.
I teach in a school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, with many students participating in The Backpack Program.
In my class, we spend long amounts of time reading and writing. Many students have difficult time focusing and staying on task, including those with ADHD.
My Project
What makes it was a good idea to have 6-7 year old students sit in hard chairs and concentrate on Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies? I noticed that many of my students in the past have had a very difficult time staying focused and concentrating during class. It was also noticed that some students act out because they just can’t concentrate. In an article by a professor at Southern Adventist University, it was noted that students who normally wandered around the room remained seated on their stability balls. The author also stated that the greatest effect occurred for students who had significant difficulties paying attention before changing chair types due to hyperactivity levels.

With your help, these students will have stability balls that will aid them in focusing and building stamina during class, which will hopefully be the beginning of their love for learning.
