Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are some of the most resilient, energetic, and inspiring young people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Many of them come from single-parent homes, most qualify for free and reduced lunch at our Title I school, and a large number of them have had to endure homelessness. They are also leaders and role models for their younger siblings who they help take care of while their parents are at work.
Regardless of the struggles that they may face, my students still find a way to show up to class smiling every single day.
They are excited about their future and all of the possibility that awaits them. While they are aware it will take a lot of work and dedication to get there, I have never met a more capable group of young people.
My Project
Every day more students are attracted to the school library to play board games. We only have some few and old ones donated by the alumni. WIth these board games we will help students to develop social skills, improve memory, critical thinking and the best of all we are teaching them problem solving and decision making.
Being good at board games leads to better concentration in the classroom and ability to overcome obstacles.
Board games are not just for challenging our students, but also aiding them in developing life-long skills, such as building friendships, dealing with challenges, critical thinking, and many more.
