Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The fine arts saves students' lives. Boomwhackers can provide a strong music program for our students.
Our school is a Title I school in Texas.
90% of our students are economically disadvantaged and are at-risk of not graduating high school. Most of our students come from Hispanic bilingual backgrounds. Despite these challenges, our students still strive for excellence.
My Project
I have requested a complete Boomwhacker set to add instruments to our classroom learning and live performances. Boomwhackers are instruments made from plastic tubes of different sizes and colors that play a different tone when struck.
Songs can be played by combining the different tones together. Each student can be assigned a different tone to play when they see their color. Students will learn to create music by working together as a team.
We plan on incoorparating the Boomwhackers to enhance and provide enrichment to our music curriculum.
Our hope is that students are inspired to continue in the fine arts after elementary school.
Research shows that most students that are in fine arts programs in the secondary level of education will perform better in core subjects, graduate high school, and go on to post secondary education.
