My students are excited about music classes! They come to me every day asking what they get to do, and excited about any activity I put in front of them. Having them every single day for general music gives me the ability to work a lot more in depth with music theory than I would if I only saw them a few times a week.
I want to give them the opportunity from a young age to start rhythm and melodic dictation, because I know they will excel at it.
My students can recognize and perform sixteenth notes as young as kindergarten, and sing solfege daily- which is incredible for a group of students in such a rural environment.
My students love playing with the boomwhackers in my classroom. The only issue is, I don't have enough to go around without having to share. I would love to have projects where small groups "compose" music for their boomwhackers and present it to the class but currently I cannot do that. If I had a few more sets of boomwhackers I would be able to!
I want to get white boards for my elementary classes so I can check their understanding of solfege and rhythm dictation.
I want them to be able to listen and write down what they hear. The more they practice this at a young age, the better off they will be when it comes to band and a life long love and participation in music.
