Most of my students are from low-income families. The students work very hard once they are told they can do anything if they put their minds to it. Music helps my students connect and gives them something to be passionate about.
For some, choir and music are the only reason they come to school!
The neighborhood surrounding our school is not the greatest, but the families work hard, and with a little encouragement, the students do, too. I would love to give them something of their own.
My general music class meets in a classroom that has been neglected for a few years. It is used by a few other small classes throughout the day, and before last year… My class met in the auditorium of our building. The only instruments my students have used in our class frequently are old buckets from a local pizzeria. Students would use the instruments nearly everyday and get the hands on experience they have been denied in years past! Some of my students come from nothing.. but I don’t want them to think they have nothing in my room! Please help!
