My students in grades 4, 5, and 6 will learn skills reading chordal accompaniment to songs that they already know. The chords will add to their knowledge of music theory which is a standard in these grades. Matching their voices in song with chords will be stimulating and fun.
My students are from a medium to high socioeconomic group and are smart, eager learners.
The music class includes vocal singing with attention given to proper posture, correct diction, breath control, correct tonal sound and rhythm. The Boomwhackers will be a physical activity incentive to add to their knowledge of music reading and theory.
My Project
Boomwhackers are color-coded percussion musical tubes tuned to a single pitch and when whacked on something produces exciting, but musically accurate sounds. The color coding system gives visual reference for students learning music and music theory. The whacking of the boomwhackers produce accurate rhythm and sound that is exciting and fun, yet produces a stage production that is stimulating to the student musician, as well as, the audience. In addition to making great musical sounds, the other goals of the use of these instruments include team building and community spirit within the group.
Included in my wish list, I have chosen Boomwhacker instruction books of Children's Songs, Broadway Songs and American Songs complete with CD's to use as a resource for these music classes.
Students who have the chance to use these interesting, yet accurate musical instruments, will work with excitement for the music produced with the aide of these instruments will stimulate the desire to be accurate while creating great pleasure.
Boomwhackers are a means of supporting the teaching of music and music theory with a very exciting twist or "whack"!
