Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our mission is to develop a learning community in which we continually improve student academic outcomes through personalization to meet our individual students’ academic needs. In addition to continued growth in academic outcomes, our school will develop global citizens by providing all students with real world experiences that help them understand other perspectives, the world around them, and the world beyond them.
As a school that provides students with opportunities to learn what matters in our world, we understand music’s integral role in developing fully rounded humans.
Our music program strives to teach students how to explore and respond to the world in which they live with empathy, compassion, and creative beauty.
Additionally, our school mission encompasses personalized learning for students utilizing our unique academic model, a community environment, a safe place for individual students to find their pathways towards who they will become, a challenging and safe environment with high expectations, and engaging experiences.
Our mission helps students map out their individual pathways to reach their goals for who and what they want to become when they grow up.
My Project
Boomwhackers will give our urban students the chance to express emotion in a healthy and purely musical way. Boomwhackers are a fun way to keep students engaged and actively moving around. Learning music teaches students more about who they are and how to experience respond to the world in which they live.
Boomwhackers help with social-emotional regulation while teaching important and foundational music skills.
These instruments are used in music classrooms around the world. My K-4 students will love using these in general music, and my 5-8 choir students might use them to accompany themselves singing.
The Boomwhackers will be used to play music in a way that is easy for everyone to participate. Students can be successful in their very first music class with boomwhackers. The Octavator Caps helps transpose the boomwhacker an octave. These caps essentially turn each boomwhacker into a second boomwhacker!
