The students at my school are curious, creative, and excited to learn! They use these talents to create to make connections between rhythm in music and the pattern of words. Their excitement when they recognize the similarities in the music they create and their other subjects is a joy to watch.
Music encourages and fosters the student's academic growth.
During one lesson, the students used instruments to illustrate the rhythm of the nursery rhyme they were learning. By accentuating the rhythm of the words in the poem, the student were able recall the entire poem in sequence.
Music is the heart of my school.
My Project
Boowhackers are an amazing child friendly instrument. All students are successful in creating music using these instruments. They are lightweight, hollow, color-coded, plastic tubes, tuned to a musical pitch by length. My students will have opportunities to create melodies, harmonize songs, and illustrate poetry through melodious sounds generated by hitting the tubes of plastic against their hand, their leg, on the floor, and even another tube. Creating melodic and also rhythmic patterns to illustrate a story or poem will help my students further develop their academic language skills. They will improve their sequencing and recall reading skills. Boomwhackets are a fun, unique musical instrument kids love to play!
