My Kindergarten class is in Northeast Florida in a rapidly growing county.
I now have 13 children, who are 5 and 6 years old, in a distance learning class during the Covid crisis.
Even though we are learning remotely, with the teacher in the classroom and the children safely at home, they are excited to learn as much as possible. My goal is still to have them develop a true love of learning, even though we are a class separated by distance.
My students need manipulatives and materials they can use at home while working as a distance learning class. If it becomes safe enough for the children to return to the classroom, each child will still have his or her own manipulatives to keep in their box of supplies. This will mean no spreading of contact germs while in our classroom since each child will have what is needed without having to share from a class set.
My Project
My students are all digital learners and are likely to be so for the rest of the school year. We have a great resource in Boom Cards that give the children the chance to have fun and learn basic skills using this great digital resource. The children are able to work on learning skills, which parents also love since the children are able to complete the activities independently.
Boom Cards are helpful in teaching addition and subtraction, letters and sounds, numerals to sets, CVC words and so much more.
We would be covering these skills during center time at school, but distance learners do not have access to those teacher made resources like they would during a traditional school year. Having a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will make it possible for me to purchase more boom cards to get us through the end of the school year.
