We are a low income-based school. Our students need love, support, and high expectations. The music class allows students to express themselves musically. They can have a positive outlet to be free to be themselves and learn in a fun, safe environment.
Students are expected to love going to music class, but it is hard to get kids excited about music when they do not get to experience it.
I want my students to have a hands-on experience and to create music for themselves. I want all of my students to be able to play an instrument no matter what their economic status may be. Although my students come from different backgrounds, most of my students dream big, and I know that they are going places! That is why it is important to me that they gain a global perspective, so when they have the opportunity to step out on their own, they will be prepared.
My Project
There’s something magical about kids and drums. My students are drawn to them like magnets. Drumming from around the world can address diverse student needs regardless of age, aptitude, or musical style preference. Active listening, playing instruments alone and with others, developing improvisational skills, and creative movement are all-natural components of drumming activities. The hope is to have a drumming ensemble.
Drumming helps build teamwork, creativity, and cooperative learning.
Having tubano drums will give more of my students the opportunity to play together. This will also help with classroom management. More students will be engaged in learning, and help them encourage each other to learn new things.
