Help me give my students books that will grab them and leave them wanting more. Giver, one of the most well-known examples of dystopian literature, is a perfect example!
My students are curious and full of humor. Until, that is, I ask them to read a novel as a class. I don't know of one novel that stirs curiosity in every student at the same time. Genres of books have changed so much. Some of the most read books are graphic novels, an upgrade of the comic books of yesteryear. Trilogies and book series get students so hooked on what the characters will do next.
Harnessing the curiosity that graphic novels, trilogies, and a great book series create in my students will make my ELA/Reading classroom the place that my students want to be all the time.
I witnessed this last year and know that if I can offer a variety of books to my students, I will instill a love of reading in them that will last a lifetime.
My Project
Adding these books to my library will give students access to titles that they may not find anywhere else. My readers will be ready to come to class, grab their book, and read their little hearts out! Captivating middle school students with interesting books that speak to them is something I strive to do. This collection of books will do just that.
I will be able to expand my independent reading program and create literature circles so students can share their reading experience with classmates.
Collaborative reading allows students to work together to better understand what they are reading.
