Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in our classroom come from working-class families in St. Paul. Many are first or second generation immigrants to Minnesota and all are learning a new language in our school's dual immersion program.
Our third-grade students are enthusiastic bookworms!
They treasure the books they check out from our school library and relish reading new books in our classroom library. We use anchor texts to inspire and guide our thematic units in third grade. These book shelves and bins would display and organize the books that represent the backbone of our content learning. We are also requesting collections of classic books to energize Reader's Workshop at the beginning of the school year.
My Project
We are requesting funding for a curated collection of high-quality classic children's books. These beautiful texts will inspire and guide our Reader's and Writer's Workshop in third grade. We are also seeking funding for shelves to house some of these books in our classroom. Spotlighting these stunning new books in our room will enliven students' reading passions at the start of the new school year and throughout every unit.
Together, these new books and sleek shelves will energize our back-to-school reading habits!
This book collection will infuse our classroom library with new, interesting books that students will relish engaging with in many ways. Third graders will love listening to these books as read alouds and diving into them independently and with a partner.
