I am a teacher to a wonderful group of first grade students. My class consists of a diverse population both in terms of personalities and their ethnic/socioeconomic backgrounds. There are several English Language Learners within our classroom community consisting of twenty two students.
Over half of my students did not attend a preschool and are experiencing school for the very first time.
Because of this, the academic level of my students range from alphabet learners to third grade leveled readers.
My class has become a family, in which, each of my students has a strong relationship with their peers. There is never a quiet learning period because they thrive best with communicating and feeding of the knowledge of their friends. With a first year teacher leading the group, my students have jumped several barriers and continue to thrive in kindergarten. Each day is a new experience and my babies will be ready to enter the next year with a strong foundation of learning in first grade.
My Project
Literacy in the classroom is a clear pathway to a career in any field. My students are coming to me from a diverse background in which some of my students have never been exposed to books or magazines.
The Scholastic magazines that I am requesting will help to develop the whole brain of all of my students by exposing them to facts and news print.
My students will use the Scholastic magazines to develop critical thinking skills and to build upon their social skills as they work in small groups to solve reading conundrums.
The requested items will help to build confidence in my young learners that will build a foundation for the love of learning early in their academic career.
