Help me give my students a library of diverse books that will offer them a window and mirror to their future.

My students are the BEST! They come to school each day and persevere no matter what their circumstances may be outside of school. They are resilient, full of personality and hard-working individuals who simply need someone to believe in them.
My students are inquisitive and bright young scholars!
They are proud members of the Grove Hall Community in Boston, MA who come from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Many of them live in impoverished neighborhoods and homes, therefore they look forward to coming to school because it's their safe haven. Due to trauma and high parent illiteracy rates, many of my students are reading two-three years behind grade level.
My students are assets to their school community and are developing the skills to become inspiring leaders in their home communities and beyond.
My project is to create a classroom library that represents the interests and the diversity of students within my school community. The books I have chosen are either written by African American and Latino writers or proudly feature the lively and rich histories of the diverse cultures represented in my school. Having these diverse books as part of my classroom library will show my students that I acknowledge and appreciate their home cultures, which will make them feel proud.
The books in my classroom library will serve as powerful tools for social justice.
While students read these diverse books and engage in Socratic Seminar discussions where they use the texts to anchor their discussions, they will become critical and analytical thinkers, as they are discovering their place in school and in the world.
As a result of having these books as part of my classroom library, my students will develop a stronger sense of their heritage and of themselves. They will feel comfortable and confident to express their cultural uniqueness and share their personal stories with me and with each other. The books that they read will help to transform their lives forever.
